Inspired by the original TVR Cerbera Speed 12, the TR Speed 12 Turbo is carrying on the legacy of the original car, but updated for the 21st century with enhanced exterior and interior styling taking priority, instead of gadgets. After all, the Speed 12 Turbo is a natural and raw driver’s car. The original Speed 12 never made it to full production, but the TR-Supercars team at Helical Technology Ltd are hoping to change that with the Speed 12 Turbo.
When TVR closed in 2006, many fans of the Speed 12 were still thinking about the car and wondered if we would ever see another. Fast forward to 2018, the Speed 12 Turbo is the second generation of the original, with an even more powerful powertrain than the original and was designed, developed, built and tested at Helical’s state of the art automotive facility near Blackpool by former TVR engineers.
The TR Speed 12 Turbo will be built in limited numbers, both in LHD and RHD. Due to the nature of the Speed 12 Turbo, the car can be personalised where the owner can specify what TR-Supercars call ‘special themes & features’.
When it comes to the way the Speed 12 Turbo looks, it builds upon the original Speed 12 and adds various modern touches. The original design is still the source of inspiration, with the Speed 12 Turbo gaining a redesigned rear end with a massive rear wing, a more aggressive front with recessed headlights and a completely redesigned interior with a digital instrument cluster and a full infotainment system.
The Speed 12 Turbo has a fully customisable driving and handling set-up, which means that the car is suited to both road and track use. The Speed 12 Turbo is powered by a 6.0 litre V12 which is fitted with a twin turbo set up.
Speaking of the V12, it is able to produce a mighty 1012bhp, which makes the Speed 12 Turbo more powerful than a McLaren P1. Along with 615lb/ft of torque, the Speed 12 Turbo is able to do a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds, 0-120 mph in 9.82 seconds and hit a top speed of at least 218mph. This car is insanely fast. The car is yet to go to the Nürburgring, but a simulated time of 7 minutes and 12.33 seconds has been calculated.
The rest of the car is made up of a carbon fibre and aluminium honeycomb composite cockpit, a modular tubular steel chassis/cage, fully adjustable suspension, carbon fibre bodywork, centre-locking wheels and a titanium exhaust system.
If you want one of these cars, you’re going to need to find at least £1,200,000 for this brilliant piece of engineering. This is a car not for the faint hearted but it’s also incredibly cool at the same time.
