At the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, Changan Mazda is set to reveal a new midsize EV sedan based on the Deepal L07 / Shenlan SL03 called the EZ-6

Update 4/24: The first photos of the electrified Mazda sedan surfaced on Chinese social media today, unveiling the mid-size model’s name and design. It will be available in a pure electric version called the Mazda EZ-6 and a range-extender variant named the Mazda EZ-60. Expected to hit the Chinese market next year, further details will be unveiled after its world premiere at the Auto China Show in Beijing later today.

Changan Mazda has previously announced two debuts for 2024, internally codenamed J90A (fully electric) and J90A-REEV (range-extender). These will be followed by the J90K and J90K-REEV in 2025, further expanding the local lineup. Mazda has trademarked the EZ-6 and EZ-60 nameplates in China, with the former being a strong contender for the upcoming electric sedan and the latter likely reserved for an electric SUV.

Chinese media reports that the new Mazda will ride on Changan’s EPA1 architecture which already underpins the Deepal / Shenlan SL03 sedan and the closely-related S7 SUV. The platform is compatible with fully electric and range extender powertrains, with the latter using a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine as a range-extender.

It's unknown whether if this'll be the "Mazda 6e" that was trademarked in Europe

From the outside, the EZ-6 looks like a Mazda product but is based on the same EPA1 architecture as the Deepal SL03 sedan produced by Mazda’s Chinese joint venture partner Changan. Production of the new model will kick off before the end of this year. It is just the third battery-electric vehicle from Mazda and will also be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The EZ-6 is 4,921 mm (193.7 inches) long, 1,890 mm (74.4 inches) wide, and stands 1,485 mm (58.4 inches) tall, and in BEV guise, will have a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Mazda has not yet provided technical specifications for the BEV or PHEV versions of the EZ-6, other than a claim the BEV will have a range of approximately 373 miles (600 km) while the PHEV will be able to travel over 621 miles (1,000 km) on a tank of fuel. The EZ-6 comes standard with front strut suspension and multi-link suspension at the rear.

It’s likely the Deepal SL03’s electric powertrains will be offered in the EZ-6. It is available with 58.9 kWh and 66.8 kWh battery packs driving a rear electric motor in 215 hp (160 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) form as well as a 255 hp (190 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) option.

There's also a Mazda Arata concept

There are some really good design elements especially in the rear which I hope will apear in next Mazdas. But front is overdesigned just like Mondeo which has wonderful rear.

Oh thank god it's not a Mazda platform and therefore the Mazda design language is a bit compromised. It looks nice - better than its platform mate - but it's still not as beautiful as previous cars. The fluid body panels as well as the lights all look nice. The chrome strips work well.

I definitely like the EZ-6 better than the Arata concept which is too angular and lacks pretty details like chrome that would make it look more premium.
