Me at the moment..

If it is intended by PD to be a serious, competitive online racing simulation, why do the cars need to be locked up at all? Why does there need to be any in game economy? Just have all the cars unlocked

Because that would strip the game of rewards and make it less entertaining.

But if it's a serious competitive simulation, the competitive racing IS the reward. The unlocking/collecting of cars is fundamentally a video game thing. If the argument is that GT Sport is not a video game but instead is a basis for competitive online racing, then there's really no need for traditional video game elements. And yet, there it is...which sort of puts paid to the notion that those of us who aren't "Serious Racers" should go play a video game like Mario Kart.

Yeah, in the end it is a „Simcade“, but by design one of the more serious ones. Naturally, if one wanted to go seriously serious he‘d do iRacing. But that’s on PC, and the last PC left my house for the trash can 5 years ago already since it is a dated platform. ‍*shrug*

In the end no one forces you to play a game of which you think it is „unfair“ with regards to its bonus system. You can take it for what it is or, as a figure of speech, play Mario Kart

GT is an economy based car collecting game. Always has been, likely always will be. The expensive cars get due exclusivity because of that.

PD makes it easy to set up a good garage of often used Gr race cars at what I'd call bargain prices though, or playing through all the campaign bits and bobs to get a free garage to earn credits with. A good balance I'd say.

Naturally, the FIA will partner with a „car collecting game“ smh

I won’t even comment further.

Again, more cognitive dissonance. 3 hours of sleep a night so you can play GT for 7 hours a day. You're an adult man with an 8 year old child.

This has nothing to do with 'mindset like the Japanese have' you have a gaming addiction pure and simple.

What if you slept 3 hours a night so you could gamble at a Casino 7 hours a day? would you consider that an addiction? Can you honestly tell me the difference?

You compare yourself to Igor who has a legitimate racing career and Trl who is a young cat in his 20's.

I understand video gaming addiction is a new thing and Gen X'ers such as yourself don't give it credence for that reason. But what you're doing isn't healthy man.

Gambling money away endangers your lifelihood. Playing PS4 doesn’t, as long as you keep a balance, e.g. with family life. I go online after I read the good bedtime story to my daughter. Then I usually play for 4-5 hours. Sometimes more. The 19th certainly was testing the limits there with 7.5 hours. That was a Wednesday, I got home at 3:40 pm and played till after 2 am when you count the YouTube vid for the followers as well. In the 15 to 25 minutes between races I fixed dinner, we ate together, I read the bedtime story. The day after we went downtown for the Xmas market, as promised, and I didn’t even touch the game.

All this is highly controlled, like my whole life. That I sacrifice sleep for a hobby you can shake your head about, but there’s nothing addictive about it. Other people get up at 4 am on a Saturday to go to a puppy show. Or watch movies till 3 am. It‘s called lifestyle.

I don’t compare myself to the aliens of the sport. But I know what they sacrifice. Because I also do. That’s where we are similar. Not by skill or other aspects of our individual lifes.

But if it's a serious competitive simulation, the competitive racing IS the reward.

It depends on the player. For some it might be the greatest reward, for others it’s not that rewarding.

The unlocking/collecting of cars is fundamentally a video game thing. If the argument is that GT Sport is not a video game but instead is a basis for competitive online racing, then there's really no need for traditional video game elements.

Is that the argument though? I think it’s still a game. And most esports is about playing games competitively, so there is no conflict between being a game and being an esports platform.

I suspect that without a game economy Gran Turismo would lose a big chunk of players. Personally I think the best part is about deciding which car to buy next. Starting from the bottom with cars you can actually see on the streets in your own neighbourhood and working your way up to sports cars, race cars and super cars appeals to me.

A test drive function would be nice though, because I get the argument that it would be nice to try out every car without having to spend years playing the game.

And the game gives you free cars for the portion of the game that is actually serious real world competition simulation... so there's no problem, is there.

They partnered up with PD for sport mode and FiA races. The car collecting is typical GT and one of the main reasons people love PD's games.

...and 4 to 5 hours (ignoring your 7.5 hour stint...) is seriously hardcore. Fair play to you as you obviously love the game but to lose sleep over it? That is borderline addiction. A video game is supposed to be a pastime, not a way of life...

Don't get hung up on the pretentious FiA partnership either. Judging by track limits and the luck of the gods penalty system, other than sponsorship, they don't bring much to the table other than a loose selling point.

I'm responding to points made by a specific person...not you. I agree with you ftmp. I'm responding to points made by the soldier basically stating that anyone who isn't playing GT Sport 25 hours per week with a full motion sim in his living room isn't serious (and isn't part of PD's target market) and should go play Mario Kart.

And the game gives you free cars for the portion of the game that is actually serious real world competition simulation... so there's no problem, is there.

Not for me there isn't other than the fact that I think it takes a bit too long for the average player to accumulate the points necessary to get some of the nicest cars.

There is nothing wrong with the setup of the game, grinding you have to do it to get the things you want in the game like cars. If you don't like grinding for credits, well it is going to take you a very very long time to get things you might want, like those expensive cars.

You can not blame the game just because you can not play much, remember playing less and you will earn less credits and I will always keep on saying this, PD has got the Reward System spot on but you need to play the game more to win more credits, and if it involved grinding well you have to do it like in GT6.

Remember do not blame the game, because it is not the games fault it is you.
You still quoting that crap?

I find it hilarious you say all is well, yet have admitted to exploiting the game by AFK play to get all the cars you wanted with little effort at all.

Clearly, as you had to do that, there is something very wrong. You basically wanted it all and for others not to have access, rather petty and childish that. And once you get a job and live in the real world, you'll learn to understand that people that can't put more time in, have good reason to want a better balance.

Your hypocrisy highlights the issues.

So what makes you think that GT-Sport can not be a serious competitive simulation (which no one thinks it is) and a game as well?

So far it strikes a very good balance between fun and serious racing. And you argument does not seem valid at all.

Jamming in dinner preparation, eating dinner and reading a bedtime story into 25 minutes for your 8yr old child?:(

jeez...follow the plot people! I AM the one saying it can be both! lol...and I totally agree it strikes a great balance, which is why I choose to play it rather than Mario Kart,. LOL...

Okay.

I’m a specific person though :(

yeah, but not the one who's point I was originally responding to when you started quoting me...

I just did a little bit of math. Having earned 31.800.000 CR after 398 days of owning GT Sport. I checked out the total price of all cars still to buy. At this rate (I do not grind) I still have to play 7 years of GT Sport before I would own every car in the game. That is, if they don't add any new ones and considering I don't win any I don't own already. But that never happens anyway.

Kazunori, i think you should rethink the prize money...
You think 32,000,000 credits in a year is a lot, lol. I agree with your point however. GT Sport needs more ways to earn big money quickly.

But then you responded to me.

And I didn’t see anyone making the case that GT Sport would not be a game.

You can not blame this game because you have a real job and live in the real world and you can't put more time in playing GT Sport. These people that cry because they want more credits, because of less play time it is there fault and not the game so please understand on what I just said.

I have a disability, I can spend more time playing this game and getting a lot of credits. There is a lot of credits to get in this game and there is no need for better credit payouts, and you need to play it a lot more to earn more credits right.

These players that play less of this game, new there was going to be a credit system and new getting credits was going to be tough to earn because they play less, so once again you can not Blame the Game just because you can not put in the time to earn credits, because it is entirely your fault and stop putting the blame on the game just because you play less.

PD has set the rewards for each event, and PD is spot on with the credit payouts for those events for this game, so if you play more and if its involved in grinding to get that car you want so be it, if you don't like grinding well that is your problem and not the game.

It's the typical case of people wanting something for nothing. If you can't put the effort in, you won't get the reward. You shouldn't be able to purchase a 20 mill car within the first hour of playing; GT doesn't work like that. Some have to understand this fact - thankfully you do.

That is 100% correct people wanting something for nothing these days and like you said, If you can't put the effort in, you won't get the rewards, and that is very true.

Anybody who says that they wanted a $20,000,000 in their first hour should be taken to task.

Can you show me the post who said this?

You don't fully understand anything do you, players want bigger payouts so they can get things like the 20 mill cars in their first hour, and it doesn't work like that.

Wrong perception. My point clarified, again: If you think a game treats you unfairly by not giving you all you want without putting in much effort, like cars you „collect“ (for whatever strange reason) or money, then you should just go play Mario Kart and stfu

NOBODY has said they want the 20 mil cars in the first hour. You are making **** up. I would like to be able to earn 20mil though without having to run the same race over 60 times in a row. I'd like to maybe be able to earn a 20 mil car without having to dedicate literally 2 weeks of gaming time (doing something that I don't particularly want to do over and over and over again) to it.

Please show me where I eluded to this?

I simply pointed out that you to admit to exploited the game in order to obtain credits, only then to criticize any that believe a better balance should be offered. I agree that gamers should earn their rewards, but that's all.

Balance doesn't mean getting it all easy so don't try to divert the point I made into something I never said, nor agree with. Your hypocrisy is blatant, clearly you feel there is a problem if you felt you had to do what you said you did. It's hypocrisy, nothing more.

All you do is bait and respond with the same crap. Just because you are disabled and can put more time in than many, doesn't entitle you to be a hypocrite. As I said, show me where I said I want everthing given to me.

As above, where was this quoted, at least by me?

Gaming shouldn't be a grind, grinding is boring and not entertaining, like a videogame should/could be. And that chaps known exploiting simply shouldn't exist, but it fully illustrates the problem here too.

You say we shouldn't have access in a day, yet he did more or less that by cutting out the grind and rubberbanded his game. Said that many times. Why can he, yet others who choose to play properly have their progress prove less effective?

Sport mode/FIA races are the main emphasis of the game, balance should see that be more rewarding that racing (poor) AI. Players are wasting time on the oval instead of potentially racing online, or what they want to do, for fun, grinding. Racing and succeeding against players is far more challenging, credits should reflect that, at the very least.

Just because he's disabled and can put in more hours than a working gamer, doesn't give him the right to be a hypocrite. Nor should a videogame that's just entertaining fun be made in such a way that the average working gamer should be held back either. Balance doesn't mean 'give me it all now' and that's a ridiculous claim.

Wrong perception. My point clarified, again: If you think a game treats you unfairly by not giving you all you want without putting in much effort, like cars you „collect“ (for whatever strange reason) or money, then you should just go play Mario Kart and stfu

I think a game could be argued to be treating me unfairly if it makes me jump through UNREASONABLE hoops just to be able to access the content. I don't mind putting in reasonable effort. You and I obviously have very different ideas about what is reasonable.

You don't fully understand anything do you, players want bigger payouts so they can get everything in one hour of play time, and it doesn't work like that.
For starters, I understand the difference between there, their and they're, so don't ever act like you're superior and say crap like "you don't fully understand anything do you".

You're saying players want "everything in one hour play time" but the only person saying that is you. So unless you can provide a direct link to someone saying that, yours is an obviously transparent red herring argument.
